Correlations on weakly time-dependent transcritical white-hole flows

چکیده

We report observations made on a run of transcritical flows over an obstacle in narrow channel. Downstream from the obstacle, decelerate supercritical to subcritical, typically with undulation subcritical side (known hydrodynamics as undular hydraulic jump). In Analogue Gravity context, this transition corresponds white-hole horizon. Free-surface deformations are analyzed, mainly via two-point correlation function which shows presence checkerboard pattern vicinity undulation. nongated where horizon occurs far downstream is shown be due low-frequency fluctuations associated slow longitudinal movement It can thus considered artifact time-varying background. gated flows, however, ``attached'' and its strongly suppressed. case, observed likely stochastic ensemble surface waves, scattering background that essentially stationary.

Transcritical flow over a hole

Transcritical flow over a localised obstacle generates upstream and downstream nonlinear wavetrains. In the weakly nonlinear long-wave regime, this flow has been modeled with the forced Korteweg-de Vries equation, where numerical simulations and asymptotic solutions have demonstrated that the upstream and downstream nonlinear wavetrains have the structure of unsteady undular bores, connected by...

Jets from Time-Dependent Accretion Flows onto a Black Hole

We investigate time-dependent inviscid hydrodynamical accretion flows onto a black hole using numerical simulations. We consider the accretion that consists of hot tenuous gas with low specific angular momentum and cold dense gas with high specific angular momentum. The former accretes continuously and the latter highly intermittently as blobs. The high specific angular momentum gas blobs bounc...

Subcritical, transcritical and supercritical flows over a step

Free-surface flow over a bottom topography with an asymptotic depth change (a `step') is considered for di erent ranges of Froude numbers varying from subcritical, transcritical, to supercritical. For the subcritical case, a linear model indicates that a train of transient waves propagates upstream and eventually alters the conditions there. This leading-order upstream influence is shown to hav...

Adaptation of Preissmann’s scheme for transcritical open channel flows

Despite widely used for the solution of one-dimensional subcritical flows governed by Saint-Venant's equations, the Preissmann's scheme cannot solve transcritical flows. This inability is due only to the solution methods created for non-transcritical flows. Transcritical transitions present specific properties which have to be adequately represented in the numerical method. A modified version o...

Energy distribution for waves in transcritical flows over a bump

Undisturbed water in a two-dimensional long channel obtains mechanical energy from a moving bump on the bottom of the channel. When the bump moves to the left at a speed near the critical shallow water wave velocity (gH) ‘12, the free surface of the water consists of a soliton zone upstream, and a uniform depression zone and a wake zone downstream.
